Stuff for today

Picture of the day
yo.

SOTD: Operator - Delicate
for no reason other than i've been listening to it on repeat for a large part of today

QOTD:
Morality is like art. It's about drawing a line. Best draw the line in pencil so when you change your mind you can rub it out and draw a new one.

I changed my mind

New SOTD because i really miss Long Train Running (John, come and visit us!!), this is a beautiful song AND right now i really wish i could just get on a bike and ride away from my life:

Roll Me Away - Bob Seger

Took a look down a westbound road,
right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler,
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
and just rolled that power on

Twelve hours out of Mackinaw City
stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks
and I told her what I'd decided to do
She looked out the window a long long moment
then she looked into my eyes
She didn't have to say a thing,
I knew what she was thinkin'

Roll, roll me away,
won't you roll me away tonight
I too am lost, I feel double-crossed
and I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right
We never even said a word,
we just walked out and got on that bike
And we rolled
And we rolled clean out of sight

We rolled across the high plains
Deep into the mountains
Felt so good to me
Finally feelin' free

Somewhere along a high road
The air began to turn cold
She said she missed her home
I headed on alone

Stood alone on a mountain top,
starin' out at the Great Divide
I could go east, I could go west,
it was all up to me to decide
Just then I saw a young hawk flyin'
and my soul began to rise
And pretty soon
My heart was singin'

Roll, roll me away,
I'm gonna roll me away tonight
Gotta keep rollin, gotta keep ridin',
keep searchin' till I find what's right
And as the sunset faded
I spoke to the faintest first starlight
And I said next time
Next time
We'll get it right

just for the record

And i hate to say this out loud and nik will never forgive me, but the Kid Rock album "Rock n Roll Jesus" has some really good moments! so...

SOTD: Roll On - Kid Rock

Mmmm
I love it when you play it like that
Come on... Play

Sittin' here alone I'm lookin' back on where I've roamed
And laughing how I swore I'd win and not get burned
Left my family
Left my home
I worked my fingers to the bone
And there was not a stone I did not leave unturned
And I was havin' a good time

Roll on Roll on Roller Coaster
We're one day older and one step closer
Roll on there's mountains to climb
Roll on we're on borrowed time
Roll on Roller coaster
Roll on tonight
Roll on tonight yeah

Money and success
I don't complain about the stress
I wanted this and now it's here
So I don't bitch
And I swear that time's a trick
It disappears in oh so quick
Man I was just sixteen
And now I'm starin' at thirty-six
But I'm still havin' a good time

Roll on Roll on Roller Coaster
We're one day older and one step closer
Roll on there's mountains to climb
Roll on we're on borrowed time
Roll on Roller coaster
Roll on tonight
Roll on tonight

And I know it's hard to see with the sun in your eyes
But one day you're gonna say I saw the light

And now headin' for the hill
And I just cannot wait until
My children grow up to have children of their own
And I'll be telling them about
The times I turned the party out
And how I stood against an army all alone
Drinkin' wine and stayin' high
And realized it couldn't last
And how I turned myself around
And went down another path
And the signs we must observe
When life's changes do occur
But most of all I'll tell them
Just how proud I am of them
And always have a good time
It's all love and good times
Let's all have a good time Yeah

Roll on Roll on Roller Coaster
We're one day older and one step closer
Roll on there's mountains to climb
Roll on we're on borrowed time
Roll on Roller coaster
Roll on tonight
Roll on tonight

For You

You who is having a pretty shitty time of it right now. Todays song is for you. Mwah

SOTD: Closing Time - Semisonic

Closing time
Open all the doors and let you out into the world
Closing time
Turn all of the lights on over every boy and every girl
Closing time
One last call for alcohol so finish your whiskey or beer
Closing time
You don't have to go home but you can't stay here

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home

Closing time
Time for you to go out to the places you will be from
Closing time
This room won't be open till your brothers or your sisters come
So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend
Closing time
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end

I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
Take me home

Song of the day

Oops. forgot this:

Tenacious D - The Metal

You can't kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk-Rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
New-wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal Ha,hahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground
Aargh! yeah! [x2]

No-one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know

New-wave tried to destroy the metal, but the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal, but metal was in the way
Punk-rock tried to destroy the metal, but metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal, but techno was proven wrong
Yea!

Metal!
It comes from hell!

Strange, ain't it

Often the nights that, on paper should be the biggest fuck ups and start out looking like absolute hell, turn out to be the ones that really rock.

what a party last night. i am pleasantly surprised that middle-aged insurance brokers can jol like that.

song of the day: immigrant song - led zeppelin because as soon as someone requested that last night, we kind of all knew it was going to be ok!

A life lesson...

it is never a good idea to put two drunk girls on the front seat of a car and then drive down fields hill playing kiddie punk. infinitely amusing for all other passengers, but a bit of problem untangling drunken limbs when one of the above mentioned girls has to try and get out of the car!

SOTD: scotty doesn't know

ramblings for someone

i hate seeing you like this. it frustrates me that you have to carry other people, make sure they're ok, keep them going, and are left with nothing for yourself. and it blows my mind that still you have time to just call and make sure i'm still ticking over. that means so much, you have no idea.

i wish there was something i could do, but you're too fucking proud to lean on other people and you're suffering for it.

there's so much i want for you. i want you to be able to relax. i want you to have the space you need. i want you to not have to worry about things that shouldn't be yours to own. i want you to be free to be you all the time, not just when you're with the select few.
most of all, i want you to be happy.

song for today: paint it black - the rolling stones

Today

has been weird to say the least. which is a fitting end to a strange weekend. i think it's all the religion flying around creating funny vibes. pfft. whatever. i have wine (not holy) and muzak, and that's all this girl needs right now

song for today:

senzafine - lacuna coil (cos it's pretty and italian)

All the Small Things

I sometimes think that i get too caught up with worrying about the big stuff to take time out and appreciate the small things that make the uphill slog worth it. Sitting outside today, watching Shae and the dogs playing, I realised that the tree in our front yard has been flowering for 6 straight months and instead of just enjoying teh pretty yellowness of it all, i spend a lot of time bitching about the flowers falling all over my car.

well, enough of that, time to sit back and enjoy some of the little perks:

  • rediscovering mudpies and sandpits (thanks Shae!!)
  • the mutts playing a three-way tug-o-war
  • Pippin trying to pounce her own shadow
  • Disney movies
  • cheese (sorry Anne!)
  • actually being awake to see a sunrise
  • Quinn wearing his frisbee as a hat
  • coffee
  • friends' killer sayings (tina's gem: if all the world's a stage, i want better lighting!)
  • Shae's complete refusal to call me mom (it's ME-GINNNN, thankyouverymuch)
  • finding my Empire Records DVD and LOVING that movie all over again.
Song for Today: Sugarhigh - Coyote Shivers

More things Theatrical

was reading through some of my old posts (hell, i'm probably the only one that reads them anyway!) and found this:

One more month of work for me at the Heritage which means one more month i can spend dodging the real world and hiding from corporate life in the surreal place that is theater.

well, that was july last year. i'm STILL hiding out at the heritage, avoiding the real world like one would a nasty flesh eating virus!

and here's why:

because i like it. no board meetings, no lame ass team building that every one fucking hates anyway and working with the most amazing people that are like a second family to me (and often i like them way more than my real one!)

sure the hours are crap and you have to put up with the odd diva, but really, wouldn't trade it for anything.

song for today:
(for no reason other than how it makes you laugh til you cry)
Tenacious D - Classico

Back Again

and this time i'll hopefully be inspired to stick around longer. who knows, maybe i'll even have a profound thought or two. stranger things have been known to happen!

something brighter

i'm in an unexplainable good mood right now... totally unrelated to any drug or alcohol consumption.

so on this positive note... things that make me happy:

shopping today. nothing like retail therapy!!

bar one cake. it's the official sh1t.

my theater family.

my sanity sponsor.

the last harry potter book. thank gods it rocks. fitting end to the series. RIP dobby

random sms conversations that get me through long days at work

facebook. it's like being back at high school... except you can delete the people that really annoy you!!

song for the day:
always look on the bright side of life

Ladies and Gentlemen...

we have teeth. well, i've had mine for quite a while, but the big news is that shae finally has one!

in other news... everyone in the durban area really has to come to the heritage theatre and see black mamba. too much of funny.

other than that... nothing really. bring on pay day. bring on BME and serpy's dbn trip. bring on summoning. most of all... bring on a full nights sleep.

song for today: my chemical romance - famous last words

other stuff

the last Harry Potter book is out. that's it, it's all over. sigh. haven't read it yet but i must admit i'm getting very anxious and wondering whether i want to read it or not. am also avoiding most of my usual haunts on the interweb just in case i see a spoiler.

YAY for elf_ears for doing fantastically at the highland dancing champs!! and while we're on congratulations, WOOHOO to gugu zulu and crew for winning A5 on the VW Rally!!

moving on, something that REALLY annoys me is when people use the bread knife to cut cheese. it's called a bread knife for a godsdamn reason.

wow. this post makes nearly no sense at all. i need a solid couple of hours of sleep more desperately than anyone can imagine. so on that note, off i go.

song for today: Hinder - lips of an angel

Honey why you calling me so late?
It's kinda hard to talk right now.
Honey why are you crying? Is everything okay?
I gotta whisper 'cause I can't be too loud

Well, my girl's in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It's funny that you're calling me tonight
And, yes, I've dreamt of you too
And does he know you're talking to me
Will it start a fight
No I don't think she has a clue

Well my girl's in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
Hearing those words it makes me weak

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

And I never wanna say goodbye
But girl you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel

Honey why you calling me so late?

cos i thought i was over you. but i'm not.

No No, i take it back

Song for Today:

Tenacious D - Fuck her Gently:

This is a song for the ladies
But fellas listen closely
You don't always have to fuck her hard
In fact sometimes that's not right to do
Sometimes you've got to make some love
And fuckin give her some smoochies too
Sometimes ya got to squeeze
Sometimes you've got to say please
Sometime you've got to say hey
I'm gonna Fuck you softly
I'm gonna screw you gently
I'm gonna hump you sweetly
I'm gonna ball you discreetly
And then you say hey I bought you flowers
And then you say wait a minute sally
I think I got somethin in my teeth
Could you get it out for me
That's fuckin teamwork
Whats your favorite posish?
That's cool with me
Its not my favorite
But I'll do it for you
Whats your favorite dish?
Im not gonna cook it
But ill order it from Zanzibar
And then I'm gonna love you completely
And then I'll fuckin fuck you discreetly
And then I'll fucking bone you completely
But then I'm gonna fuck you hard
Hard

Perfect Friday song. hehehe

Randomness

song for today: Lustra - Scotty Doesn't Know

no reason except that it's so godsdamn bouncy and always puts me in a good mood.

moving on...

good luck to elf_ears and her posse, competing at the SA highland dancing champs this weekend. hope you get feeling back in your toe.

and bring on the weekend. tis been a good week, albeit a bit sleep deprived. actually, i really should be power napping instead of slumming around the internet. oh well.

oooh, oooh, other song for the day: Tenacious D - (dude) i totally miss you

Dude, i totally miss you
I really fucking miss you
I'm all alone,
All the time, all the time

Dude, i totally miss you
The things we did together
Where have you gone?

Totally miss the honesty
And special times, and honestly
I totally miss the fucked up thing ya do

Dude, i totally miss you
I totally miss you
Dude, i totally miss you
All the time

Ahhhhhhhhhh, aaaaaah
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, aaaaaah
aah ya-he haaa.

Totally miss the honesty
And special times, and honestly
I totally miss the fucked up thing ya do

Dude, i totally miss you
I totally miss you
Dude, i totally miss you
All the time

makes me laugh it does.

Song for the day

This has no real significance except that i kinda remember singing it at the top of my voice on the way home last night. i think.

Puddle of Mudd - She Hates Me
